Zaka Ashraf resigns as Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairperson

Zaka Ashraf became PCB chairperson on July 2023 replacing Najam Sethi.

Pakistan Cricket Board has not yet recovered from their setback in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 in India. Pakistan’s early exit from the tournament created tremors in their setup and prompted several changes. The change began by replacing Babar Azam as the captain from all the formats of the game. Now Zaka Ashraf has decided to resign from his post of the PCB chairperson.

This came after a day when Mickey Arthur, Grant Bradburn and Andrew Puttick decided to part ways with Pakistan Cricket Board. Zaka Ashraf announced the decision of his resignation while chairing a managing committee meeting on Friday in Lahore. This was Zaka Ashraf’s third tenure as Pakistan Cricket Board chairperson.

Zaka Ashraf resigns

Pakistan cricket board informed about Zaka Ashraf’s decision in a statement. PCB statement read, “At the end of the meeting, Mr Zaka Ashraf announced that he had decided to tender his resignation as chairman and member of the Managing Committee to the honourable Patron Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar.”

Zaka Ashraf’s contract was set to end on February after he was given a three-months extension in November. According to a few media reports, Zaka Ashraf’s exit was due to his educational qualification as he is not graduate.

Pakistan suffered their seventh consecutive loss in the international cricket. Australia thrashed Pakistan in a three-match test series, while New Zealand are currently leading the five-match T20I series by 4-0. It is likely that Pakistan Cricket Board will be looking beyond Zaka Ashraf and Najam Sethi this time and a new face might come as PCB chairperson.
