Toyota has recalled the 2022-2023 Toyota Tundra full-size pickup truck again, this time for engine issues, the automaker disclosed Thursday. The recall also includes the new Lexus LX, and it encompasses 102,000 Toyota and Lexus vehicles in the U.S. The recall was first reported by Pickup Truck + SUV Talk. 

Machining debris may not have been cleared from the engine, Toyota said, resulting in potential engine knocking, a rough running engine, or an inability to start or to continue to run. The notice has not been disclosed by the NHTSA so details on the remedy and timing are scant. 

Toyota expects to notify owners of its recall fix by late July. 

This is the ninth recall for the redesigned Toyota Tundra pickup truck, and another black mark on a brand known for its truck reliability and engine longevity. Redesigned for 2022, the Toyota Tundra ditched the V-8 for a series of twin-turbo 3.5-liter V-6 engines that included a hybrid option. It’s unclear if the recall encompasses both powertrains.

Prior recalls have ranged from the innocuous, such as labels misstating load capacity, to the troublesome. Earlier this year in February, Toyota recalled 280,000 Tundras as well as Sequoia and Lexus LX full-size SUVs for a slipped transmission that created a rollaway risk. In August 2023 more than 168,000 Tundras were recalled for a fuel line that can leak. In June 2022, not long after the new model went on sale, it was recalled for a rear axle housing that can separate from the shaft.
