Ravi Ashwin gets rid off English captain Ben Stokes once again in test cricket

Ace Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin bowled a magnificent delivery to dismiss England’s skipper Ben Stokes in the second innings at Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Hyderabad. Ben Stokes scored 70 runs in 88 balls in the first innings to take England to 246 runs total but he failed to replicate the similar performance in the second innings. Stokes became Ashwin’s fourth dismissal in the game.

England had a troubled start in the second innings but Ben Duckett and Ollie Pope played stable hands to steer England towards recovery. Ben Stokes came after Jadeja rattled Jonny Bairstow early. Ben Stokes looked defensive in his style in the second innings and Ravi Ashwin found a great opportunity to dominate the English skipper. He faced 32 deliveries and scored six runs.

Ravi Ashwin dominates Ben Stokes

English skipper Ben Stokes didn’t look comfortable against Ravi Ashwin as the off-spinner was continuously putting him on the back foot. In fifth ball of the 37th over, Ashwin delivered a magical delivery. He drew Ben Stokes with an off and middle stump line and delivered the fuller ball. Stokes went for a forward defence but was late to reach the ball. It turned a bit and dislodged the bails to dismiss the English skipper.

This was the 12th occasion when Ravi Ashwin took Ben Stokes’ wicket in test cricket. In international cricket, Ravi Ashwin has dismissed Ben Stokes 16 times. Stokes’ average against Ashwin in test cricket is also poor. He has scored only 232 runs against Ashwin in 624 balls (104 overs) and has gotten out 12 times to the Indian off-spinner. His average against Ashwin in test cricket is only 19.3

England have scored 172 runs with loss of five wickets at the end of the second session on day two. Hyderabad test is moving fast as England are still 18 runs behind and they are left with only five wickets. Jasprit Bumrah also had a terrific second spell and picked up two wickets. Jadeja dismissed Jonny Bairstow. Team India were dismissed on 436 runs in the first innings. Ravindra Jadeja was India’s top-scorer with 87 runs.
